Compress PDF

Pick a target size, drop your PDF. Re-encodes embedded photos while keeping text and vectors untouched. Processed locally in your browser.

How this works

PDF size is usually dominated by embedded images, not text. This tool finds every JPEG image inside your PDF, shrinks and re-encodes it, and rewrites the file — the same page layout and text, smaller images. It runs a small predictive search (not an exhaustive one, since re-processing a whole PDF takes real time) to land under your target; if it can't get there within a few passes, it's honest about that instead of quietly handing you an oversized file.

Scans and non-JPEG images (raw bitmaps, JPEG2000) currently aren't re-encoded — this covers the common case of scanned or photographed documents, not every PDF.
