Calculates how many plants of a given vegetable fit into a rectangular garden bed, using standard per-plant spacing distances published by extension-service growing guides. Divides the bed into a grid at the recommended spacing and reports rows, plants per row, and total plant count.
Formula
Rows = ⌊Bed Length (in) ÷ Spacing⌋ · Plants/Row = ⌊Bed Width (in) ÷ Spacing⌋ · Total = Rows × Plants/Row
Bed dimensions are converted from feet to inches, then divided by the recommended spacing distance for the chosen plant and rounded down, since a partial plant slot cannot be used.
Calculation Example
An 8ft × 4ft bed of tomatoes (24" spacing): length 96"/24" = 4 rows, width 48"/24" = 2 plants/row, 4 × 2 = 8 tomato plants.

No — enter only the actual growing area of the bed itself, not surrounding walkways or paths.
Why does the plant count round down?
A row or column that does not fully fit the recommended spacing is not usable for that spacing distance, so the calculator rounds down rather than crowding plants closer than guidance recommends.
