Calculator Inputs
How the Calorie Burn Calculator Works
Estimates calories burned during physical activity using MET (Metabolic Equivalent of Task) values from the Compendium of Physical Activities — the standard exercise-science reference used in research and fitness tracking.
Formula
Calories Burned = MET × Weight (kg) × Duration (hours)
MET represents how many times more energy an activity uses compared to resting. A MET of 8.0 means the activity burns 8x your resting metabolic rate.
Calculation Example
A 70kg person running at 6mph (9.8 MET) for 30 minutes: 9.8 × 70 × 0.5 = 343 calories.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a MET value?
Metabolic Equivalent of Task — a standardized measure of energy expenditure for physical activities, published in the Compendium of Physical Activities used by exercise scientists and fitness researchers.
Why does this only give an estimate?
Actual calorie burn varies with fitness level, terrain, effort, and individual metabolism — MET values are population averages, not individually calibrated.
